Our Craft

Our products are carefully handcrafted utilizing old machinery and methods of construction, which gives them a unique age old look and natural feel as well as imperfect and weathered appearance. Extensive handwork and detailing comperes our our garments a favorably to any in the marketplace.

In the process of creating our collection we are using some of the oldest machinery that is still used in industrial production as well as some of the oldest natural dyes known to man. Volcanic mud dye, parchment, natural charcoal, tea, logwood, Japanese Alder and

natural indigo are some of the dyes used in variety of our products.

Natural Indigo is perhaps the oldest dye known to man. It was the original dye of all blue jeans manufactured in the beginning of XX century. Since then almost all blue jeans are chemically dyed, using synthetic indigo. The art of organic, natural indigo dying has almost disappeared. There are very few companies in the world that are making natural indigo jeans. Gilded Age Jeans are dyed with the color of the actual indigo plant. The shade is distinctive and recognizable by its deeply hued appearance. The process of making natural indigo jeans is time consuming, slower and more labor intensive then all methods used today. It takes a lot of highly skilled hands taught over generations to use this process.

The art of hand knitting is one of the oldest and most practical ways of making cloths. It is a completely natural and organic process which relies on the skills of an artisan to create an item of clothing with nothing more then a pair of needles and a ball of cashmere yarn. This art of garment knitting has almost disappeared from today's marketplace. Nowadays there are few companies in the world that make hand knitted sweaters in variety of gauges. Gilded Age sweaters are hand knitted with some of the finest Mongolian cashmere yarns and are renown for their compact,

tight knitting and softness. The process of hand knitting is time consuming, slower and more labor intensive then all machine knitting methods used today. It takes a lot of highly skilled hands to do this artisanal work.

Some of our garments area 100% organic clothing items created in the small artisanal natural dye studios. They are produced according to the old ways of cloths making, paying special attention to authenticity of artisanal craft which is in full sink with nature & environment. In the spirit of years gone by, some knitted garment are knitted on "Hung Up" jersey machines which were a staple in knitting from 1870's till 1960's. There are very few machines in the world of this kind. Those that still operate are 30 times slower then regular knit machines. Due to the machine's characteristics, the fabric created on it has a unique softness and fullness that keeps the form much longer then the regular knits. Not to mention, there are very few craftsman with the knowledge to operate these machines.

Mass production - it is not!
